BRUSHFORK — Jeremy Thompson nailed back to back 3s to break open a very tight game and help Bluefield to a 63-51 win over Shady Spring on Wednesday at the Brushfork Armory.
Thompson led the Beavers with 25 points, including three of Bluefield’s six 3s in the game. It was the Beavers’ first game since Feb. 5 because of weather issues.
The Beavers had jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and took a 29-22 edge to the locker room, but could never shake the Tigers.
Shady Spring’s Cole Honaker scored nine of his team-best 23 in the third period and the Tigers’ led on four occasions in the see-saw quarter.
The Tigers tied it early in the fourth quarter at 42-42 all and again at 44 before a Mookie Collier post basket gave Bluefield the lead it would not relinquish.
With the Beavers up 50-47 at the 3:00 mark, Donta Hopkins had a big three-point play following a pair of Honaker foul shots. Thompson then scored his back to back 3s and Bluefield led 59-49 en route to their 11th win.
Collier and Hopkins also scored in a double figures for Bluefield with 15 and 10 respectfully.
Bluefield returns to action Friday with a trip to Greenbrier East.
