BLUEFIELD — Run, run, run. That can sum up the style of play this season by the Bluefield Beavers.
On Wednesday night, the River View Raiders invaded Ned Shott Gymnasium and the Beavers ran to a 93-46 victory.
Midway through the opening period the Beavers had opened up a double-digit lead thanks to their pressure defense, fast break offense and five blocked shots. K.J. Manns had the early hot hand for Bluefield as he tallied 11 points in the game’s first eight minutes.
In the second stanza, the Beavers extended their lead as D.J. Edwards came off the bench to score down low and help Bluefield claim a 46-17 halftime lead.
Anthony Eades fired in eight points in the third quarter as the Beavers lead grew as high as 50 points. In the final period two treys by Que Amaker helped the home team to its final total.
“All the kids played hard,” said Beavers head coach Buster Large. “K.J. Manns had a good game. Anthony Eades had a solid game. Lykel Collier had a solid game and D.J. Edwards came off the bench and played well. Any time you get four (players) in double figures you feel like you’ve had a balanced scoring attack.”
Eades led Bluefield with a game-high 22 points. Manns added 19, while Lykel Collier and Edwards each scored 13.
Zach DeHaven led River View with 14 points.
The Beavers finish 2011 with a perfect 5-0 record and do not return to the court until the calendar turns to 2012, when the defending state champion Oak Hill Red Devils visit Ned Shott Gymnasium on January 3.
“They’re the defending state champions and we’ve got time to get back to work and improve some things,” Large said. “We’ve got to get better inside and our shooting wasn’t as good (Wednesday night) as it has been.”
