BRISTOL, Va. — All three Black Diamond District teams in the Virginia High Tip-Off Classic lost opening round games Wednesday.
Lee's quickness and defense overcame Honaker's advantage inside as the Generals pulled away in the second half to a win over the Lady Tigers.Samantha Ely scored a game-high 22 points, her teammates gave her support in key spurts and Lee forced a few turnovers in the halfcourt and took a double digit lead, 48-37, by the final minute of the third period.
Jessica Crabtree hit two 3-pointers and MacKenzie Arney added seven points in the third quarter and Marquette Garrett came off the bench to score all six of her points in the fourth period. That helped Lee (6-1) maintain its margin until Honaker (2-1) ended the game on a 9-3 run in the final 1:51.
Megan Meade came off the bench to post a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Laken Robinette added 17 boards and nine points for the Tigers, who seemed to score mostly on stickbacks through the first three periods.
