PRINCETON — Hunter Walters and Darnell Palmer combined for 15 third-quarter points as Princeton pulled away from Lincoln County for 53-42 win Wednesday night.
The Tigers led by one after the first period, 16-15, and both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter. They combined for only nine points and Princeton led 21-19 at intermission.
In the third quarter, the Timberwolves had crept to within two at 23-21 on a Nathan Cremeans layup. That’s when Walters found the range.
The 6-foot-3 junior hit three straight treys to spot the Tigers an 11-point lead at 32-21 and when Lincoln County made a rally, Palmer answered with three consecutive mid-range jump shots.
Kyle Caron, seeing his first action after a preseason injury, scored 11 points off the bench to help the Tigers snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 2-3. Walters finished with 13 and Palmer had 11.
Lincoln County’s three-game win streak was stopped and the Timberwolves are now 3-3. Jordan Aldridge led them with 17 points. Cremeans added 14.
Princeton, which played without injured Ryan Meadows, returns to action after a lengthy break on Jan. 7 at home against Parkersburg.
