Narrows rallies past Mustangs

NARROWS, Va. — The Narrows Lady Wave pulled out of a deep fourth-quarter hole and outscored Eastern Montgomery 12 to 5 in overtime to defeat the Mustangs 78-71 in a wild contest on Monday night at the Patteson Gymnasium.
Narrows (7-5, 1-1 Mountain Empire District) was 6 for 32 shooting in the first half, out of sync after a long layoff between games. Eastern Montgomery held a 17-point lead with 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Tiffany Perdue, who was 0 for 10 from the floor in the first half, hit a jumper with 5 seconds left in regulation to cap off a 31-point fourth-period explosion by the Green Wave. It tied the game 66-66 and forced the overtime period.
“I don’t know how we got back in it,” said Narrows head coach Wayne Gautier.
Perdue and freshman Shelby Baker combined for 37 of the 60 points Narrows scored in the second half. Baker had 30 points and 20 rebounds for the night.
The Mustangs’ Afton Graham scored 48 points, going 20 of 25 from foul line.
The two teams combined for 82 free throws.
Narrows plays Radford Wednesday and travels to Bland County on Friday.
