BRADSHAW — On a Tuesday night when the temperature in the River View gym was in danger of bursting a rising thermometer, the Mingo Central Lady Miners chilled the Lady Raiders 65-37.

A quartet of Mingo Central players, led by junior Ashley Curry’s 20 points, scored in double figures to capture the ninth win against seven losses for the Lady Miners. Hannah Church and Caitlyn Cantrell added a dozen points apiece, while Keirra Hammond contributed eleven.

The Mingo Countians led from start to finish, hammering the ball inside against a smaller Lady Raider lineup.

Curry scored the initial eight points of the contest, as Central stretched the lead to 12-2, with only a Kiersten Dority two after beating the full court press lighting the River View scoreboard.

The Lady Raiders battled back with nine unanswered points over the final three minutes of the opening stanza to pull to within one, at 12-11.

Dority scored four, freshman Katie Dobbs chipped in three and senior Raven Kennedy added a pair of free throws in the run.

That would be as close as the View would get the remainder of the way.

Hammond’s bucket with seven ticks remaining gave the Lady Miners a 14-11 advantage after one quarter, that stretched to 29-19 at the half, thanks in part to a nine point spurt of their own by the visitors.

Defensively, the full court Mingo Central press caused the Lady Raiders problems throughout, as did the Central inside game at the other end of the court.

Dobbs accounted for the final six points of the third to close the gap to 48-34, but a 16-2 spurt over the final 6:19 of the game spelled the downfall of River View for the ninth loss against five wins on the campaign.

Dobbs and Dority scored 17 and 14 points respectively for the Lady Raiders, who travel to Liberty Raleigh Thursday night.
