BRUSHFORK — Bluefield finally put a persistent Oak Hill team away with a 29-point fourth quarter, beating the Red Devils 84-68 at the Brushfork Armory on Wednesday night.
Starting rapidly, it looked like Bluefield would win the game in a runaway. The Beavers built early leads of 13-2 and 15-3 before the Red Devils chipped away.
Oak Hill would creep to within eight at the quarter, trailing 25-17, and ultimately cut Bluefield’s lead to five, 37-32, late in the second period.
Bluefield took a lead a 41-33 lead into the locker room.
In the third quarter, Lykel Collier sparked the attack with six assists in the period and Bluefield would lead by 15, 54-39.
Once again, though, the Red Devils came back. A jumper by Joey Re cut the Bluefield lead to seven, 55-48, at the end of three.
In the early fourth quarter, Anthony Eades and Corey Coppola provided early firepower and helped Bluefield grab an insurmountable margin.
Eades led all scorers with 19 and Coppola added 17. Collier had 11 and Matthew Woodrum added 10, as Bluefield put four into double figures.
Oak Hill (8-7) was paced by Re with 16.
Bluefield (15-2) entertains Princeton Friday night.
