NEW RICHMOND — Matt Ryan scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half and his Summers County Bobcats used a strong fourth quarter to put away Independence 59-47 in a first-round game Friday evening in the Class AA, Region 3, Section 1 boys basketball tournament at Wyoming East High School.
Only four Bobcats scored but three reached double figures — Ryan, Jacob Lively (18) and Ashton Garten (16). Chris Mills and Cody Collins each netted 14 points for the Patriots.
Summers County moves on to the sectional semifinal against top-seeded Wyoming East at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Westside will play Liberty at 6 p.m. in the other semifinal.
