Virginia High 61, Hurley 54
BRISTOL, Va. — Savannah Jacobs had an exceptional double-double scoring 20 points and grabbing 25 rebounds to lead Virginia High to a 61-54 victory over Hurley in a consolation contest in the Virginia High Tip-Off Classic.
“That’s a good night,” Virginia High coach Lee Walker said. “Savannah played hard, that’s what we need out of her. She’s a big presence on the inside and can dominate when she wants to.”
Haley Bryant was back in action after a medical problem and had a big game with 15 points and four assists for Virginia High (1-2). Kerrigan Bailey (12 points) and McKinley Rhinehart (10 points) also had big offensive games.
“Haley played well,” said Walker. “It’s good to have her leadership back on the floor. We have a young team and Haley has some experience and knows what she is doing.”
Hurley (0-2) made it interesting in the first half. It was tied 27-27 at halftime. The Bearcats blitzed the Rebels outscoring them 22-10 in the third frame to take over the game.
“We went to a 3-2 match up in the second half and tried to keep their shooters at bay,” Walker said. “Hurley can really shoot the ball.”
Seniors Kourtney Cook and Adrianna Cline poured in 20 points each for the Rebels.
