BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield High School girls basketball team picked up a quality win by 20 points on Monday night, defeating the third-ranked team in Class AA, Westside, 76-56 at the Brushfork Armory.
Bluefield senior Jessica Hayden nailed six field goals from beyond the 3-point arc and led all scorers with 28 points. Fellow senior Essence Brown followed with 21 points and had a double-double with 13 rebounds. Jia Coppola and Dani Janutolo each had six rebounds.
Hope Lester led Westside with 15 points but got into foul trouble early in the second half.
The visiting Renegades led 18-17 after the first period, but Bluefield (2-1) held a 33-25 margin at halftime and expanded it to 56-39 after three quarters.
Bluefield hosts Graham at the Brushfork Armory Thursday night.
