BRISTOL, Va. — After a long football season the Tigers finally got on the hardwood. Honaker won their first game of the season defeating Marion 69-54.
“I’m very pleased but I know we still have a long way to go,” Honaker coach Marcus Dunham said. “We can’t base our season on our first game. I was a little apprehensive coming in, we only had one scrimmage.”
There didn’t appear to be any rust on the Tigers game. Post Tanner Robinette who moved back from Lebanon finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds and two blocked shots. Hunter Lester added 15 points and Casey Dye 12.
Riley Blevins dropped in a game-high 29 points to lead the Scarlet Hurricane and Hunter Lefler scored 15 points.
“We knew Honaker hadn’t played and would be anxious,” Marion coach Chad Blevins said. “We knew they were big, so we had to switch to a zone.
“I’m a little disappointed in our effort, they beat us down the floor. I didn’t feel we competed like we should have. We have a lot of work to do.”
