Happy Valley 71, Tazewell 41

The Bulldogs kept it close for a little over a quarter. But Happy Valley (5-8) pulled away for a 71-41 rout in a consolation contest. Austin Hicks scored 20 points to lead the Warriors to the win.

The game was tied at 23-all early in the second quarter, but Happy Valley closed out the half on a 14-5 run for a 37-28 advantage at intermission. Tazewell (0-10) was held to two points in the third quarter and the Bulldogs finished with 21 turnovers.

“I don’t know how many shots we missed in a row, but it was a lot,” said Tazewell coach J’me Harris. “We’re just a team that struggles to score if we can’t create turnovers. We didn’t have the defensive intensity we needed, we couldn’t turn them over and Happy Valley went on a run.”

Nick Elkins totaled 15 points for Tazewell and Juwan Jordan added 14 points.
