NITRO — Ryan Meadows, who was in his second game back from an injury, scored a game-high 27 points including three big foul shots in the final 25 seconds and Princeton defeated Nitro 57-53 Monday night.
The Tigers fell behind early when Nitro went on a first quarter 10-0 run fueled by Hunter Ferrari’s seven points in the quarter. The Wildcats led 16-11 after the first period.
A Hunter Walters’ three sparked 9-0 Princeton run in the second and the Tigers took a 20-18 lead. A David Brewster stick back at the buzzer permitted the Tigers to tie the game at the half 24-all.
In see-saw third quarter that saw eight lead changes, Meadows converted a three-point play and added a three at the buzzer as Princeton went up 42-37.
Angelo Siriani hit back-to-back three’s to start the final period and Nitro led 43-42. After three ties, Princeton led 52-50 on a Darnell Palmer rebound return. Siriani’s three with 1:25 left gave the Wildcat’s their final lead, 53-52.
Brewster converted on the drive and after a pair of empty Nitro possessions, Meadows converted three of four at the line and Princeton won their third straight.
Brewster paced Meadows with 10 points.
Siriani led Nitro (3-4) with 17 points and Ferrari added 11.
The Tigers (4-3) return to action Friday at Spring Valley.
