Grundy’s girls built a double-digit lead by halftime and pulled away in a second half that turned into a lengthy free throw shooting contest in Tuesday’s opener.
Emily Lane scored 22 points and Lexi Boyd posted a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Wave, who led 29-16 at the intermission.
Lane (10-of-14) and Boyd (12-of-20) made numerous trips to the line in a game that took an hour and 41 minutes to play, including a 31-minute third quarter.
The teams combined to shoot 75 free throws, 62 in the almost hour-long second half. Grundy was 29-of-55 from the charity stripe overall.
Kourtney Cook scored a game-high 26 points to lead Hurley. Adrianna Cline (12 points, 12 rebounds) added a double-double and freshman Allison Bandy added 11 points for the Lady Rebels.
