GRUNDY, Va. — Marion pressure shut down Grundy for three-and-a-half quarters and then held on for a 52-46 win over the Golden Wave in Southern Empire Conference action Friday night.
Tanner Blanton and Brock Billings tossed in 17 points apiece for the Scarlet Hurricane, which forced 23 turnovers and took the lead for good halfway through the opening quarter.
Dylan Wolford scored 16 points and Ethan Duty added 15 to lead Grundy, which trimmed a 47-36 deficit to 48-44 on a bucket inside by Cole Street with 1:14 remaining.
Billings and Zach McNeil converted free throws in the final 51 seconds to protect the Marion lead.
“They forced a lot of turnovers, they were very aggressive defensively,” said Grundy coach Brian Moore. “We didn’t play very well, but that was because of their defense.
“At least our kids were resilient, they didn’t quit.”
