PRINCETON — An early Christmas came from long distance for PikeView High on Saturday night.
The Panthers sank 11 3-point shots and outscored the Princeton Tigers 20-12 in the fourth quarter to capture the championship of the Princeton Christmas Tournament 53-48 on the Ralph Ball Court.
The Tigers, who connected on nine treys in the game, recovered from a 5-0 early deficit to lead 20-16 at the end of the first quarter and 26-24 at halftime.
Hunter Hill had five 3-pointers and led PikeView’s scoring with 17 points. Seth Meadows added 14 and Tyler Boyd 13. Colton Fix topped the Princeton points chart with 18. Jacob Whittington chipped in 12 and Cole Cochran contributed 10.
PikeView plays Bluefield on Tuesday at the Brushfork Armory. Princeton is at home Tuesday to play Oak Hill.
In the tournament’s consolation game, Mount View picked up its first win of the season after two close losses, defeating Mercer Christian Academy 67-38 after taking a 34-20 halftime lead.
Eight Golden Knights entered the scoring column, led by Sidney George and Joseph Hayes with 14 and 13 points respectively. Five Knights contributed to nine 3-point field goals. Mercer Christian got 19 points from Daniel Boothe and 10 from Chandler Scott.
Mount View plays on Tuesday at Independence. The Cavaliers host James Monroe on Monday.
