GRUNDY, Va. — Virginia High had an advantage in size and numbers, rotating in 11 versus Grundy’s eight.
The biggest numbers, however, belonged to Jordan Dixon.
Dixon knocked down eight 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead Virginia High to a 61-40 over Grundy in Southern Empire Conference play Monday night.
The Bearcats swept the varsity action, knocking off the Lady Wave, 50-41.
Dixon came off the bench to score 20 of Virginia High’s first-half points as the Bearcats built a modest 32-25 lead by halftime. It went downhill rapidly for the Golden Wave boys shortly after that.
Virginia High closed out the third quarter on a 12-4 run to extend its lead to 50-34 and forced seven turnovers on Grundy’s first eight possessions in the fourth period.
“They just wore us down over the course of four quarters,” said Grundy coach Brian Moore, whose club dressed just eight players Monday, including one player just called up from the junior varsity.
“I thought we played pretty decent the first half. (Dixon) hit a couple of three-pointers. You got to know where he’s at and we lost him about half-a-dozen times. But our execution is a problem right now.”
Christian Jackson scored 12 points and Ethan Duty added 10 for the Golden Wave.
