BRADSHAW — River View played host to the Dr. Martin Luther King Showcase Monday and both the boys’ and girls’ teams came away with wins in the four-high-school-game event.
In the second game of the day, following the Montcalm Lady Generals’ victory over Mountain Mission in the opener, the Raiders burst on top of Lincoln County 25-7 after one quarter and 46-16 at the break.
The visiting Panthers made but 1 of their first 10 attempts from the field, trailing 21-3 only 5:37 into the game.
Senior Tyree Baker, who scored 38 points last Friday in a 59-55 win over Mount View, opened with 10 first period points and 15 more in the second against Lincoln County before finishing with 36 to pace the 8-2 Raiders.
For the half, River View connected on 16-of-28 field goal tries, including 7-of-15 from three point range. The Panthers, meanwhile could convert but 5-of-22 attempts in the inaugural sixteen minutes.
Lincoln County warmed in the second half, outscoring the Raiders 23-18 in the third and 32-17 in the final frame to close to the final 81-71.
Assessed River View head coach Roger Hale, “We came out really well. We shot the ball real well. ... We had a big lull in the second half. We didn’t play very well with the lead.”
Related Lincoln head coach Rodney Plumley, “We’re having too much difficulty with kids making shots. We’re having too many quarters when we put up single digit quarters. ... They’ve (The Raiders have) got some shooters. Baker is as good as it gets. They’re a very explosive basketball team.”
Jake Ashley and Brandon Holley scored 17 points apiece to lead the 8-4 Panthers, while Nate Spencer tossed in 16.
Senior Brian Mitchell followed Baker’s 36 points with 15, while sophomore Ronnie Morgan added 11 and senior Todd Coeburn contributed 10.
Lincoln will visit Scott Friday, while the Raiders will remain home to entertain Ambassador Christian from Williamson Friday evening.
