HONAKER, Va. — Honaker reached a couple of school firsts Saturday.
The Tigers set a school record for the most regular season wins and completed what is believed to be the Tigers first-ever undefeated regular season with a 75-41 blowout win over Grundy.
Freshman Brett Boyd hit five 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 24 points, 6-foot-8 senior Tanner Robinette contributed 23 rebounds, 20 points and seven blocks and Blake Stinson dished out 10 assists for Honaker (24-0).
The Tigers, who built a football-score-like, 47-15 halftime lead, have a bye into the Crooked Road Conference tournament semifinals Friday and also own the CRC's top seed in 1A West Region playoffs.
"I told the boys this is the first time Honaker's ever had an undefeated regular season, but I also told them the regular season's over now," said Honaker coach Marcus Dunham. "We got to start a new season and everybody's 0-and-0 right now."
Christian Jackson scored 17 points and Dylan Wolford added 16 for the Golden Wave.
One highlight for Honaker: senior team manager Jared Barton scored four points late in the game, the first points of his career.
The Tigers were without two ailing starters, Hartley Hilton and Brandon Sample,
Grundy opens Southern Empire Conference tourament play Monday at Marion.
