Grundy 66 Honaker 57: The Lady Wave (14-9) opened the game on a 15-4 run and managed to maintain a lead the rest of the way in Saturday's opener.
Autumn Sperry dropped in 22 points and Lexi Boyd added a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds for Grundy. Emily Lane handed out 10 assists and had four steals.
"We came out and played a smart game," Grundy coach Craig Plymal said. "I was worried about that since it had been sevem days since we'd been on the floor, but we looked sharp."
Megan Ray led Honker with a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds, both game highs. Madi Musick added 12 points and Madison Miller scored 11 points. Kaytlyn Shelton had six assists and six steals.
Grundy travels to Richlands Monday in SEC play. Honaker hosts Holston on Tuesday.
