Boothe scores 48 for MCA in state tourney

BRADLEY — Mercer Christian senior Daniel Boothe tied the school record for points in a game, finishing with 48 points in a 61-41 West Virginia Christian Educational Association (WVCEA) quarterfinal victory over Pipestem Christian on Thursday at Appalachian Bible College.
Boothe tied the previous game high of 48 set by Ben Shrader at Mercer Christian.
Mercer Christian (21-9), which won the WVCEA state title last season, jumped out to an 12-0 lead after the opening quarter.
Boothe also set a school record by making 19 of 20 from the free throw line, and also found the energy to accumulate 17 rebounds and seven steals.
Jayson Steele led Pipestem Christian (14-8) with 20 points, four assists and three rebounds. Colton Lane added 12 points and 11 boards, while Levi Miller pulled down 12 boards.
Mercer Christian will play Mountain State or Elk Valley in the semifinals today at 5 p.m.
