BRADLEY — The Cavaliers from Mercer Christian Academy will defend their state championship today in the finals of the West Virginia Christian Education Association tournament, after beating top-seeded Mountain State 62-56 Friday in the semifinals at Appalachian Bible College.
Daniel Boothe led the way for MCA with 32 points, going 15 for 18 from the free throw line. He added 12 rebounds, four steals, and seven assists, recording his seventh straight double-double. Jacob Dove contributed 12 points for the Cavaliers (22-9).
The game was close until the final period, with Mercer Christian ahead 23-20 at halftime.
Jeremiah Cude scored 28 points to account for half of Mountain State’s total for the day.
The Cavaliers play Vic-tory Baptist this evening for the WVCEA tournament crown.
Tournament play ended for the MCA varsity girls on Thursday with a 46-28 loss to Victory Baptist.
