Mercer Christian girls to play for NCSAA title

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Defense has carried the Mercer Christian girls basketball team to the championship game of the NCSAA Division National Tournament.
One day after holding the opposition to 15 points, the Cavaliers trimmed Plants & Pillars, a Christian school located in Pennsylvania, 22-21 on Friday, and play either Rochester Rapids or Kingsway in the championship game today at 10:30 a.m.
Allison Mills canned two free throws with 20 seconds left to lift the Cavaliers to a semifinal victory, rallying from a six-point deficit at halftime.
Mills led Mercer Christian with 14 points.
Peyton Pugh (3), Kennedy Pugh (2), Leah Billings (2) and Jaala Maurer (1) also scored for the Cavaliers.
