PRINCETON — Hunter Walters hit a three to start the fourth quarter and gave a Princeton a lead it would not relinquish. The Tigers went on to defeat Capital 44-41 Wednesday night.
Princeton started slowly as Capital jumped to a 10-2 lead and the Tigers trailed 16-10 after one period. A Ryan Meadows’ jumper tied the score at 16-all with 5:19 left in the half and a David Brewster tip-in gave Princeton its only lead of the half, 23-22, with 2:06 before the break. Capital’s Earl Reed nailed a post jump shot and Cougars led 24-23 at intermission.
In the second half, the Tigers fell behind by as many as five, but stormed back to tie it on a Meadows’ lay-up with 20 seconds left in the third period. On Princeton’s first fourth quarter possession, Walters nailed a three, his only points of the game, to give the Tigers the lead and Princeton was able to make defensive stops the rest of the way.
Meadows led all scorers with 21 points.
Capital (11-7) was led by Eric Mills’ 13 points. Reed added 10.
The Tigers (10-6) play host to Greenbrier East on Friday night.
