PRINCETON — Ryan Meadows made a pair of pressure-packed foul shots with 7.8 seconds left and Princeton upset No. 4 Woodrow Wilson 58-57 on Senior Night at Princeton Senior High School.
The Tigers made several clutch plays late in the contest coming from six points behind to tie it on a Hunter Walters 3 at 45-45 with 5:28 left in the game.
TaRon Ayers and Cameron Shannon combined for 16 fourth quarter points to help Woodrow Wilson stay in the game and the Flying Eagles took a 55-54 lead with 50 seconds left on a Ayers’ drive to the hoop.
Walters answered with a length of the court drive and finger roll and Princeton led 56-55 with 34 ticks remaining. On Woodrow ensuing possession, Ayers was fouled, making both free throws and the Eagles led 57-56.
On Princeton’s final possession, Meadows was fouled in traffic and made both free throws with 7.8 seconds left.
Woodrow Wilson had one last chance, but misfired on a pair of shots from the paint as the buzzer sounded.
The Tigers, who put together their most consistent 32 minutes of the season, got great rebounding games from David Brewster, Tre Hopkins and Walters, and Darnell Palmer helped Princeton grab an early lead with 11 first quarter points.
Shannon led all scorers with 23, and Ayers added 16 for Woodrow Wilson (15-4).
Walters had 15 and Meadows, Palmer, and Brewster had 11 apiece for the Tigers, which improved to 11-7.
