BRADSHAW — Wyoming East opened a 22-0 lead and rolled to a 57-21 win over the home standing River View Lady Raiders in the consolation game of the Little General Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
It was tough going for River View early as the Lady Raiders were not able to get on the scoreboard until 34 seconds remained in the first quarter when Phyllis Waldron made the team’s first basket. Wyoming East led 24-2 after one quarter.
Akasa Benton came off the bench and sparked River View in the second period as she grabbed rebounds on both ends of the court and scored six points.
“Benton was the most athletic person on the floor,” said River View head coach Gehrig Justice. “She doesn’t know how good she can be. Her first step is so good. She’s one, as the year goes on, if she plays like that and we get Chelsey (Dobbs) back, we’ll be OK.”
Wyoming East continued its balanced scoring attack, mostly from in the paint and led 38-10 at halftime.
The third period saw the offensive woes continue for River View as the Lady Raiders scored only two points. East took a 49-12 lead into the final eight minutes.
The Lady Raiders had their best offensive period of the game in the fourth as they outscored the Lady Warriors 9-8.
Benton led River View with 10 points. Haley Lowman led Wyoming East with 15 and Chelsea Duncan fired in 14.
Wyoming East head coach Angie Boninsegna said, “We ran our break well today. We want to run as much as we can. We got out to a quick start and that helped us as well.”
Duncan and Brianne Pertee, who scored nine, were both named to the all-tournament team for Wyoming East. River View was represented by Brittany Coeburn and Waldron.
Wyoming East (2-1) plays at Independence on Tuesday, while River View (0-2) returns to action Friday night at Tug Valley.
