GRUNDY, Va. — There are turnarounds and then there's Tazewell's about face from its last meeting with Grundy.

The Bulldogs turned a double-digit loss to the Golden Wave at Tazewell completely around, routing Grundy, 89-41, Tuesday night.

Jalen Jordan poured in a game-high 24 points and Blake Hash hit five 3-pointers and added 19 points and seven assists for Tazewell (4-1). It was defense that led to most of the Bulldogs good fortune on the offensive end.

Tazewell forced 29 turnovers, and got 18 points off 19 Grundy miscues in the first half alone in building a 40-21 halftime lead.

Four Tazewell defenders had two or more steals, including Hash, who had six. Noah Walker blocked six shots and had eight rebounds for the Bulldogs.

"Our defense, that was the key," Tazewell coach Lee Walker said. "Our defense stepped up a little bit. The kids played hard and really got after it on defense."

Grundy (1-2) played little or no defense in the second half, especially in transition, and the Bulldogs took advantage of the Golden Wave.

After a 14-2 run late in the first half, Tazewell opened the second half with a 23-4 run, shooting layup after layup and extending its lead to 63-25 near the end of the third period.

The Bulldogs out-hustled Grundy to the end and closed out the game on a 14-4 run. The final margin of 48 points was the biggest.

Ben Rife and Cody Church each scored 10 points for Grundy, which hosts Richlands on Friday.

Tazewell, which lost to Grundy, 55-36, the first time the two former Southwest District rivals played, hosts Graham on Thursday.
