PRINCETON — Princeton broke open a close game in the third quarter and defeated Parkersburg 75-62 on Tuesday night.
In a testy contest in which the Big Reds were accessed four technical fouls and Princeton with one, the Tigers grabbed a three-point halftime lead, 33-30, on the strength of Kyle Caron’s 15 first half points.
Derek Jennelle scored the first five points of the third period to stake the Tigers to a 38-30 lead.
Parkersburg cut the deficit to three, and then Hunter Walters hit a 3 and finished an alley-oop feed from Ryan Meadows with a slam dunk, sandwiched by a Meadows’ 3-point play.
That flurry gave Princeton a double figure lead, 46-35, that it would maintain the rest of the night.
Meadows led all scorers with 21, Caron added 15 and Jennelle scored 11.
Parkersburg, 5-11, was led by Chad Newell with 18 points, and Ben Umplgby added 13.
Princeton, 13-4, travels to Capital on Thursday night, and will host Oak Hill on Saturday.
