GRUNDY, Va. — Loni Webb wanted a win more than her 1,000th career point.
The Grundy senior got both Tuesday night.
Webb and the Lady Wave held off a second-half comeback from a short handed Twin Valley squad and clinched their second straight Black Diamond District regular season title with a 51-43 win over the Lady Panthers.
Grundy (15-4, 8-1) clinched the BDD outright when Honaker knocked off Haysi in double overtime Tuesday evening.
The second Grundy player to reach the scoring milestone in a week Webb hit seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points. Her fifth trey of the first half left her with an even 1,000 and Grundy with a 33-12 lead.
Twin Valley (7-9, 6-3) played without leading scorer Katelyn Jackson. Last year's co-BDD Player of the Year injured her ankle in practice on Monday.
The Lady Panthers rallied with a stifling defensive effort in the third quarter, when they held Grundy to two points on 1-of-14 shooting from the field.
A stick-back by Hannah O'Quinn capped a 17-2 run that got Twin Valley with 35-33 with 6:54 remaining in the game.
Krystal Cantrell scored six points as Grundy responded with a 10-3 run and a 45-36 lead after a Paige Owens free throw with 3:16 left.
It brought a sigh of relief to Webb, who hit two more 3s in the final period.
"I said before the game I didn't care if I got to 1,000 points or not as long as we won," said Webb after her final regular season home game. "We just went cold in the third quarter. The fourth quarter we just had to get our heads back in the game."
Cantrell finished with 11 points and four assists, while Morgan Hall contributed 11 rebounds and nine points for Grundy.
Lakin Keene and Kara Goodman each scored 12 points, while Goodman and Megan Meadows each grabbed 10 rebounds for Twin Valley.
