Bluefield 84, Richlands 61: The Beavers broke open a close game in the second quarter and took the victory.
Richlands opened the game on a 5-0 run before the Beavers could get on the scoreboard. The Blue Tornado led 18-16 after one, as the Blues used the long ball, two threes by Cody Fuller and one by Grant Herndon, and five free throws by Scottie Ball to grab the lead.
Bluefield exhibited its speed and pressure defense in the second quarter as they forced Richlands turnovers and scored in transition. The Beavers out-scored the Blues 26-11 in the second to take a 42-29 halftime lead and never looked back.
Jordan Ponder led Bluefield with 19 points, closely followed by Corey Coppola with 18. Raheem Reed scored 15, Jeremy Thompson 11 and Latrell Collier 10.
Luke Phillips led Richlands with 20 points, Scottie Ball added 18 and Cody Fuller tallied 14.
