In the girls’ varsity game, the Lady Blues (9-5) went on a 12-1 run in the opening frame against Honaker on their way to a dominating non-district win.
“Give Honaker credit, they played a hard game,” Richlands head coach Dennis Palmer said. “I still don’t think we played well. We didn’t have the intensity like we had in the game against Marion last night.”
MaKenley Davis and Cassie Richardson hit three-pointers in the first period run to push Richlands to the early lead. Richardson was perfect in four free throw attempts in the second quarter and Davis added five points as the Lady Blues took a 25-5 lead at the halftime break.
The Lady Tigers opened the third quarter with more intensity and scored 10 points compared to the Lady Blues’ five, cutting the Richlands lead to 30-15.
However, the Lady Blues added 14 in the final eight minutes to seal the deal.
Rachel Alley had a big game inside for Richlands with 15 points to lead all scorers, followed by Richardson who had 11. Brooke Wolford was Honaker’s pacesetter with 11 points, including three perimeter shots.
Richlands travels to Abingdon on Tuesday for a girls-boys twinbill, while the Tigers will do the same at Grundy.
