HONAKER, Va. — A couple of undefeated teams will head to regional play next week. The Northwood girls and the Honaker boys remained perfect. In the finals of the Crooked Road Conference tournament at A.P. Baldwin Gymnasium, Northwood led wire-to-wire in defeating Twin Valley 71-49.
Northwood hit four early 3-pointer to jump out to a 12-2 lead and quickly advanced to a double-digit lead and never relinquished it. The “diamond” press of Northwood created numerous problems for Twin Valley. Twenty-five turnovers by Twin Valley was too many to overcome.
“You can’t turn the ball over like that, you have to be able to handle the ball,” Twin Valley coach Tommy Crigger said.
“That’s probably the worst we’ve played all year. I don’t know if we just happy to be here or what, but we have a lot of work to do.”
Northwood hit the Buchanan County Panthers from all angles. Kelsey Puckett (17 points), Peyton Williams (14), Tayler Broyles (11), Alex Doane (11) were all in double figures.
Lexy Vance powered Twin Valley with a game-high 20 points. Kim Lester added 11 points in the loss.
“You’re playing the number one team in the state, they are 23-0,” stated Crigger.
“They’ve been together four years. They made us turn it over a lot, but we helped them some too with unforced turnovers.”
Twin Valley will be in the 1A West regional playoffs and travel to Fort Chiswell on Tuesday. Northwood will host George Wythe.

Boys
Honaker 83, Twin Valley 67

If you wanted to see a massive display of firepower, you needed to hang around for the boy’s contest. It was quite a battle between Honaker post Tanner Robinette and Twin Valley guard Tayten Sykes. Robinette set a Honaker High School record with 53 points and Sykes dropped in 40 points for the Panthers.
“It was a great night,” Robinette said. “But our backs were against the wall, I had to step it up or we were going to lose. I didn’t care about the points, I just wanted to get the win.”
Sykes drove inside converting a reverse layup, to give Twin Valley a 59-56 advantage with 6:56 left to play in the game. Robinette scored 10 points, as the Tigers went on a 14-0 run as a three-point deficit quickly became a 10-point advantage.
Robinette also had 14 rebounds. Brent Coleman added 10 points, five rebounds, six steals and seven assists in the win. Tanner Wagner (12 points) and Cole Payne (10) were also in double-figures for the Panthers.
Honaker will host Fort Chiswell and Twin Valley travels to George Wythe.
