BRADSHAW — Lincoln County, trailing host River View 30-25 at the break, outscored the Raiders 31-13 in the second half to down the View 56-43 last evening.
The Raiders, who knocked down 8-of-14 shots in the opening 16 minutes from 3-point range, went as cold as the temperature outside in the second half, converting only 5-of-22 shots and 0-for-12 from beyond the arc.
Tony Clevenger dropped in a 3-ball for an early 3-0 River View lead that quickly evaporated with a T. J. Arbaugh deuce and another by Kenny Helton for the Panthers.
Clevenger gave the View the lead for the remainder of the initial half with another trey, followed by a Zach Morgan trifecta for a 9-4 Raider advantage.
Eleven points in the opening period by Clevenger helped the View, who used great passing and ball movement offensively, take a 16-11 lead.
Freshman Tyree Baker made all four of his second stanza shot tries, netting 11 points, as River View maintained that five point advantage, at 30-25 at intermission.
Analyzed Lincoln County head coach Rodney Plumley, "This is the kind of game that scares the heck out of me...In the first half, everything you fear and talk to your kids about: They (Raiders) came out and knocked down eight threes in the first half. We had some careless turnovers...
“Their (Raiders) confidence soared by the minute in the first half. They had enthusiasm. They got excited. They got in a flow and we were in a ball game."
The Panthers reeled off the first eleven points of the second half to quash the Raider hopes.
T. J. Arbaugh, who scored 16 points to lead the visitors, started the run, followed by an Andrew Davis putback. Arbaugh's second deuce of the quarter pushed his team back in the lead for keeps, at 31-30. T. J. Jeffers came off the bench to add two and Davis bombed from the left corner, and the Panthers were off an running, literally.
River View's shooting cooled down considerably, coupled with five turnovers in the third, as Lincoln County led 41-36 going into the final eight minutes.
Holton scored to pace Lincoln County in the fourth, as the Panthers outgunned the View 15-7 to record the win.
Of the Lincoln second half comeback, River View head coach Don Smith alluded to the shot selection by each team, "We only scored 13 points in the second half...They (Panthers) were a little bit more patient on offense and we got a little bit more impatient."
Plumley countered, "Our kids dug themselves out of it in the second half."
Holton added 14 points to Arbaugh's 16 for the now 6-4 Panthers, who visit Chapmanville Tuesday.
Baker finished his evening's work with 20 points, on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor, while Clevenger added 11, all in the opening frame.
Lincoln, led by Holton's seven rebounds, controlled the boards 35-18. Clevenger and Taylor DeHaven grabbed three misfires apiece for River View.
The visitors shot 45 percent from the field (20-of-44), while the View could muster but 37 percent (16-of-43), including 5-of-22 in the second half.
River View, now 0-8, will entertain Mingo Central Tuesday.
