Grundy (56) Vs. Twin Valley (46)

Grundy 56, Twin Valley 46
The Golden Wave won the BDD tournament girls championship with a victory over Twin Valley.
“We knew we had some pretty good matchups,” Grundy coach Craig Plymal said. “These two teams just know each other so well. In the first quarter we just couldn’t get our shots knocked down.”
The Lady Panthers took an early 8-3 lead aided by a trey from Lexy Vance and Kim Lester. Twin Valley then went the final 4:11 of the first quarter without scoring, as Grundy (7-4) slowly fought back to lead 9-8.
Two more 3-pointers from Lester, put Twin Valley back into the lead, but a 16-1 run turned the complexion of the game. Grundy was up 30-20 at halftime.
“Once we started making some shots, we played the defense behind it,” said Plymal. “If you hold someone to 20 points in the first half, you should beat them.”
Vance was a one lady show for the Panthers in the third quarter, when she almost brought them back. Vance had 14 of Twin Valley’s 16 points in the quarter. She posted up to score inside to give them a 36-34 lead with 1:35 to play in the third.
“Vance is all-state,” said Plymal. “We knew we had to take it to her on defense and that she would take it to us on offense. We did a good job of getting a man and a half on her, that’s what she requires.”
But Lexy Boyd hit a huge 3 for the Wave and added a reverse layup. Jessie Caudill added a basket and Grundy was up 41-36 going to the final stanza. Vance quickly fouled out and didn’t score a point in the quarter as the Wave got the win.
Vance totaled 17 points and Lester 13 in the loss. Boyd paced the Wave with 16 points and Emily Lane added 12 points.
“There is something about this team that I like,” Plymal said. “They won three conference 39 games last week, we’re sitting good in the conference.
“Sitting good in the BDD and we think we’re going to get better.”
