COVINGTON, Va. — Picking up their third win in a row, the Lady Mavericks also picked up the championship of the Covington Christmas Tournament on Saturday.

The visitors set the tone early, jumping to a 21-8 lead, and allowed Covington just seven points in each quarter after halftime.

Three Lady Mavs reached double figures in the scoring column, led by Sydney Ballard’s 19 points. Kayla Campbell led Covington with 13 points.

Laine Shiflet was named the tournament’s most valuable player and was joined on the all-tournament team by Ballard, Bailee Jackson and Mikaila Moran.

James Monroe (3-5) plays next Saturday at River View in a girls-boys doubleheader starting with the girls game at 2 p.m.
